Currently   I am a post-doctorate researcher under the supervising  of Full Professor João Antonio Zuffo,  who is also Coordinator of the  Laboratório de Sistemas Integráveis of University of São Paulo ,  Department of Electronic Systems Engineering, Polytechnic School, University of São Paulo, Brazil.  I was awarded a  full-time post-doc fellowship from Foundation of Protection to Reserch of São Paulo State that  began in November, 1999 and ended on October 2002.

Research before 1999

Language SELF

I am generating architectural and structural design within a context of urban ecosystem in the prototype based object

oriented programming language SELF for the design and planning of sustainable cities. The paper was presented at the

7th Workshop for Doctoral Students in Object Oriented Systems at ECOOP'97 (11th European Conference on

Object Oriented Programming).

One of the fundamental aspects of my ecodesign model being implemented in SELF is its ergonomic dimension. It

pervades all the model and enhances flexibility and malleability tuning with the nature of SELF. This paper will be

published in the Annals of the 8th Brazilian Congress on Ergonomics to be held in Florianopolis, Santa Catarina,

from October 27 to 30.

You may have a glimpse of the implementation of my ecodesign model in Self in the paper that deals with the initial

phase of prototyping  to be presented at the Workshop on Prototype at OOPSLA-

Vancouver  October 1998.

Background

I studied Biological Sciences at Faculty of Medical Sciences,  University of Rio de Janeiro State  from 1972 until 1975.

I restarted my architectural studies at Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1976. Due to early interest in generating sustainable cities by computer, it took me  a long time to finish the course. But finally I was awarded a degree of architect in October 1984. By this time my ideas were ripe enough to advance my ecodesign model.

I started my master's degree in Architecture and Planning at Department of Architecture and Planning, Engineering School of São Carlos, University of São Paulo in 1985.

I was successful in advancing an ecodesign model in my master's dissertation entitled "Spirit, Energy and Information: Essential Elements of the Urban Ecosystem. A study of descriptive languages that evidence the dynamic processes involved in the concept of environmental design.

The Committee for the Oral Presentation of the dissertation considered it a PHD thesis!

I was accepted to advance its implementation in several Graduate Schools of Architecture such as GSAUP-UCLA,

Environmental Design to work work under the advising of Christopher Alexander, UC at Berkeley and so on from 1988

until 1993. Due to the multidisplinary nature of the proposal, no places abroad could offer equipment and personnel to unfold the ideas.

I made up my mind to continue my PHD studies at Graduate Courses in Environmental Structures from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, University of São Paulo, from 1993 until 1998.

I was awarded a PHD in NOvember 1998. My PHD thesis is entitled: A proposal of a prototype-based Object Oriented Knowledge System to design and plan sustainable cities.

I was awarded a post-doctorate fellowship from Foundation of Protection to Research of São Paulo State to advance my research project entitled New Computation Paradigms Reflect the Nature of an Ecodesign Model since NOvember, 1999. It will end on October 2002!

Post-doctorate research

My first Scientific Report is entitled "The unfolding and development of artistic consciousness in the Information Era". It is written in Portuguese.

The Second Scientific Report is entitled "New Computational Paradigms Reflect the Nature of An Ecodesign Model".

The Third Scientific Report is entitled "Devising a generative morphodynamic level" I intend to publish an international edition in the next two years about my research. This Scientific Report is sort of a draft. I have not contacted Robert Rauschenberg (indeed I was not able to contact him - those that know his e-mail please let me know) nor Cordon Bleu for Escher's pictures yet.  However I think the info in the SRIII is of the utmost importance for dealing with domain modeling and I think mankind cannot afford waiting till I can publish a final version with copyright from my research. If I am wrong, please let me know.

Recent Papers

In June 2001, I joined the Workshop on Object Oriented Architectural Evolution organized by Tom Mens and Galal Hassan Galal associated to ECOOP'01 (European Conference on Object Oriented Programming) held in Budapest, Hungary.

The Workshop Report  can be visualized here and downloaded from http://prog.vub.ac.be/OOAE/ECOOP2001/ECOOP2001-OOAE.html

In September 2001, I joined the IVth International Workshop on Principles Of Software Evolution, organized by Tetsuo Tamae, Mikio Aoyama and  held in Vienna, Austria. The paper presented is entitled An Evolutive Architecture Reasons as a semiotic, hermeneutic and autopoietic entity and is published in the Proceedings from the Workshop.

In September 2001, I was invited to  present a paper entitled A semiótica como veículo transdisciplinar (and its slide show. Please visualize at Internet Explorer) at the plenary session from the  Semiotic Congress, organized by Beaux Arts Graduate Schools of the state of São Paulo, Brazilian Semiotic Association and associated faculties. Theme: Liminarity and Transdisciplinarity in Science .Eproceedings of the Congress. September 22-26, 2001.

In April 2002,I  presented  a paper at the Recent Object Oriented Trends Conference in Bergen, Norway, April  7th-19th 2002, entitled Object Oriented Software  Object as a living Object!

And its ppt slide show. (Please visualize at Internet explorer).
